Super Green Powders

We all know greens can do wonders for our health.

But what about these ‘Super’ Greens….you know Spirulina, Wheatgrass, Barley grass, Chlorella…why are these any better?

Well, these powerful ‘super’ greens are particularly important to include in your life if you ever… Drink coffee, eat out, drink booze, hang out in cities, feel stressed, have trouble sleeping and eat non-organic vegetables or meat.

Which i’m fairly confident is almost anyone reading this right now.  If you live the life of a modern lady (or lad) you will be exposed to general toxins and pollutants every day and of course the body has an INCREDIBLE ability to detoxify itself, but why not give it a helping hand….

These ‘super’ greens contain HIGH amounts of Chlorophyll – the green stuff in all green plants.

This stuff is like liquid-gold and is the most alkalinizing, blood-purifying liquid you can drink.  It’s full of nutrients, antioxidants, blood purifying and anti inflamatory properties that are necessary for all optimal functions of the system.

So we’re going to focus on our two favourites here… and give you a few facts to help you understand these beauties a little better…

Spirulina

This is a dark blue-green algae grown in fresh water.

It’s one of the most readily available forms of plant protein that we can digest, giving you long lasting energy.

It helps to reoxygenate and alkalinise the blood.

It’s rich in vitamin C so is a powerful immune booster.

It can help reduce cravings for sugar due to its high mineral content.

It’s one of the highest sources of Beta Carotene you can get, making it a winner against free radical damage to our cells.

It’s one of the richest plant sources of Vitamin B12, very important for any vegetarians / vegans.

You can take this in capsule or powder form so you can add it to smoothies, juices or bliss balls for an extra hit of goodness.  

Chlorella

This is another single celled micro-algae grown in fresh waters.

It’s loaded with simple amino acids, enzymes, phytonutrients and antioxidants that are often missing from ordinary land-based foods.

This is a blood-purifying nutrient.  It acts by mopping up any of the unsavoury (toxic) things floating in the system and helps the liver to flush them out (A LOT of water should be drunk to assist with this flushing process).

It also helps to reduce sugar cravings due to it’s rich mineral content.

It’s not as rich in protein as spirulina but boasts almost twice the amount of the mighty chlorophyll.

This can be consumed in capsule or powder form also.  

Cleansing Green Smoothie

Ingredients:

~ 2 ripe bananas (medium sized)

~ 1-2 stalks of Celery

~ 1-3 trees of Broccoli

~ 1 large handful fresh spinach or baby kale

~ 1 whole kiwi fruit (peeled)

~ 2 cups filtered cold water (or coconut water)

~ 1/2 lemon (juice squeezed)

~ 1 tbsp ground flax seeds

~ 1 tbsp chia seeds

~ 1 tsp Chlorella OR Spirulina (or 1/2 tsp of each)

How to:

Chuck everything into a high-speed blender and whizz until a lovely smooth smoothie (no lumps or grit). Serve this cold in the morning (serves 2) and feel energized for your whole day!

DIY Spirulina Face Mask

This is a very simple face mask and gives your skin a delightful glow by drenching it in minerals, vitamins and antioxidants.

~ 1 tsp Spirulina

~ 1-2 tsp Water

Optional— 1 tsp Coconut oil (melted) , 1 tsp Manuka honey (melted).

Mix together until a smooth paste is formed and then apply liberally over face and neck. (Mind the smell around the nose area– you may want to avoid applying the mask in this area for that reason). This will keep in the fridge for about a week.
