With Easter coming up there is no better time to indulge in a Hot Cross Bun – one of our favourite treats. These oats attempt to embody all the delicious flavours found in a good hot cross bun, including the spices, the zing of citrus and the truly indulgent dark chocolate. A delicious warming breakfast as we move into the colder months.
½ cup jumbo oats
1 cup almond milk + extra if necessary
¼ cup sultanas
1 tsp cinnamon
½ tsp mixed spice
½ tsp nutmeg
½ orange juiced + zest
3-4 squares (80-90%) dark chocolate chopped
1. Place all ingredients in a pot, stir and let soak overnight.
2. In the morning give them a stir and add more liquid if necessary – if they are already all absorbed then you will likely need to add more.
3. To cook, bring the oat mixture to the boil on the stove and simmer until soft and creamy.
4. Top with dark chocolate, coconut and white chia seeds (in the shape of a cross, if you want to be fancy)!
