Anti-inflammatory Lentil And Kumara Soup

It is definitely still chilly enough to be enjoying a nice hearty bowl of soup on the regular and this is just what we have been doing with this beautiful, body-loving soup! We are absolutely loving adding anti-inflammatory ingredients such as ginger, turmeric and garlic into allll of our meals at the moment to make sure our immune system is kept in tip-top shape – and it seems to be working! Try out this delightful, fragrant soup to see the results yourself!


2 cloves garlic

1 thumb ginger

1 onion, diced

1 tbsp coconut oil

1 tsp turmeric powder

2 stems celery

1 medium carrot

1 large orange kumara

3 cups vegetable stock

1 cup coconut milk

1/2 cup red lentils

juice of 1 lemon

salt and pepper

To serve:

fresh coriander

coconut or Greek yoghurt


1. Fry the onion, garlic and ginger in coconut oil in a large pot until softened.  Add in the turmeric and fry for 1 minute before adding the chopped carrot and celery. Allow this to cook for about 5 minutes.

2. To the pot, add the kumara, lentils, stock and coconut milk and allow to gently simmer until the kumara is soft and completely cooked through.

3. Once the soup has cooled enough, blend until smooth with a stick blender and season to taste with salt, pepper and lemon juice.

4. Serve with a dollop of your choice in yoghurt or a swirl of coconut milk, fresh coriander and lemon wedges.
