Feeling like a change from the usual green or berry smoothie? We’ve got you covered with this coconutty number! This smoothie is perfect for those afternoons when you need a pick-me-up and a calm-me-down at the same time. Adaptogenic herbs work to calm the nervous system, recharging your adrenal glands and assisting in your response to stress. In this smoothie, we include Ashwaganda which you can pick up from your local health store oe online. A little goes a long way so it’s worth investing in. This recipe is rich in healthy plant-based fats too, so your blood sugar levels won’t be jumping and you’ll be left satisfied for longer.
This one can be enjoyed in a bowl like we have done here or you can pre-make it in a takeaway jar for when you’re on the go!
1 frozen banana
1/4 cup liquid (water or nut mylk) – add more if you like a thinner consistency
2 tbsp coconut yoghurt
1 tbsp coconut butter
1 tbsp basil or chia seeds
1 tsp maca powder
1 tsp ashwaganda powder
1/2 tsp cinnamon
1 handful ice
Throw all ingredients into your blender and blend until smooth and creamy. If you’re after more of a bowl, add only enough liquid to blend.
Top with your favourite toppings. Our faves of the moment are basil seeds, coconut chips, almond butter, cacao nibs and extra fruit.
