Top 5 Energizing Snacks

I think we can all agree that we’d love more energy from day to day.  Snacking, when done right can give us that boost we need to get us through sleepy mornings or long afternoons.

We’ve managed to narrow it down to our Top 5 Energizing Snacks…to make this list, each snack needed to provide a good hit of energy while lasting the hours until we next eat.  In order for snacks to provide good long lasting energy they must have enough protein or fat to steady the digestion and prevent a spike in blood sugars.

We think you’ll love these!

Raw Dark Chocolate & Nuts – specifically these Loving Earth Luvjus

We LOVE the size of the ‘Loving Earth Luvjus‘ – they make the perfect individual snack. The HIGH content of mineral-rich raw cacao provides a clean rush of energy & mood-boosting chemicals in the brain .  These are sweetened lightly with coconut nectar, a beautifully flavoured natural sweetener. Pair this dark chocolate with some raw nuts and you have yourself the perfect afternoon treat.  You can buy these beauties at most health food stores around NZ and if not just ask them where they are?! Our NZ stockist: Chantal Organics.

Loving Earth Dark Chocolate & Almonds

Creamy Cacao & Spirulina Smoothie

This creamy smoothie is our afternoon go-to when needing a little sweetness and a quick pick-me-up. Both the raw cacao and spirulina provide a good dose of nutrients, minerals and clean energy that’ll see you through the afternoon with smiles and content.  The recipe is simple & quick and could be made ahead of time and stored in the fridge.  You’ll need: 1 frozen banana, 1/2 cup coconut/almond milk, 1 heaped tbsp raw cacao, 1 tsp spirulina, 1 small handful of raw cashews and boom – blend and done.

Nut butter & Celery

Such a simple but timeless snack.  This is a good one when you’re craving something more on the crunchy side, coz we know those times come! Fresh and clean celery (or carrot) sticks dipped in your fave nut butter will be a great satisfying and of course energizing snack at any time. We like to dip into a crunchy peanut butter, raw almond butter or whole tahini. YUM!

Cacao Hazelnut Balls

Here’s a classic recipe of ours that we make over and over,  they make a great snack mid-morning or after lunch when you’re feeling a little flat.  Munch on one or two of these and you’ll feel satisfied and energized from the goodness of cacao, hazelnuts and sweet dates.  Pair these with a hot cuppa Peppermint tea for extra energy. Matcha Almond Latte

Matcha is a variety of green tea that’s been stone ground into a powder and is choc FULL of antioxidants, minerals, chlorophyll & amino acids.  Although it contains caffeine, it also has high amounts of the amino acid – theanine meaning you won’t get any of the jitters, anxiety or crash often associated with a regular cuppa java and instead will feel calm, focused and energized. We like to reserve this treat for the morning & make it at home as a little ritual. Our favourite brand: Matcha Matcha (image from Matcha Matcha).
