The Do’s and Don’ts of Choosing a Snack Bar

1. Search for wholefood ingredients

Look for combinations of whole grains, nuts, seeds and fruit with NO additives or preservatives.

2. Keep it simple

When it comes to snack bars “less is more” is definitely the approach to take. The smaller amount of ingredients generally means the healthier the bar. Too many bars have added sugars and preservatives hidden inside that may be detrimental to your health. 2. Let your snack bar become your meal

If you’re starting to feel a little peckish think about the last time you ate and whether your body is going to feel happier after a snack or a meal. A high-energy snack bar is not going to be as satisfying as a proper meal and might leave you hungry for more. Treat your snack bar as just that; a snack to hold you over until your next meal. Pick a bar between 400-700kJ depending on how soon your next meal is.

3. Forget about the fibre content

The dietary fibre in your snack bar is a strong determinant of how full you will feel after eating. We recommend at least 6g/100g serving, this will allow your body to digest the bar more slowly and regulate your blood sugar so it is not spiking.
