8 Ways With Coconut to Kick Your Sugar Cravings

It’s no surprise to any of our readers that we are huge fans of coconut. Not only does it taste delightful in all its different forms, it is also one of our faves for fighting those needy sugar cravings. Whether it’s in the form of flakes, oil, milk, chips or fresh, coconut is a winner when it comes to filling you up and dealing with cravings. Here are some great ways you can find and use coconut to help kick those sugar cravings to the curb without any nasty side-effects of refined sugar-laden snacks:

1. Pan-Fry Veggies in Coconut Oil

Sweet potato or pumpkin chunks can be lathered in coconut oil and sprinkled with salt then pan-fried to perfection. This is a great option if you have the cooking facilities available and need something satiating to tide you over until your next meal. You could even add coconut flakes or desiccated coconut for the last few mins of frying to make the chunks extra golden and crispy.

2. A Sprinkle of Desiccated Coconut

Sprinkle some desiccated coconut over your morning oats, fresh fruit or yogurt to take its nutrition value up a notch. These little morsels of coconut will add a delightful sweetness and also keep you nice and full.

3. Whip Up a Rice Pudding

All you need to do is heat up any leftover rice/quinoa/oats combination with a good splash of coconut milk until creamy and sweet. Then add vanilla, cinnamon, nuts and anything else that tickles your fancy for a tasty flavour. Rice pudding makes the perfect, sweet yet nourishing snack between meals or even pre-bedtime if you’re still a little peckish.

4. Coconut Oil Straight From the Jar

You might be used to lathering up your body or hair with coconut oil for its natural moisturising benefits. You’ll be happy to learn that this isn’t its only awesome use! Eating a couple of teaspoons of coconut oil as is will fill you up and stop your sweet craving right in its tracks.

5. Add Coconut to Your Smoothie

Whether this be desiccated coconut, coconut oil, coconut milk, coconut cream or any other type of coconut on your radar, this will bulk up your smoothie and keep you full for longer. Most types of coconut will also add an extra smooth, creamy texture to your smoothie. So delish!

6. A Cuppa Coconut Water

Coconut water is an amazing electrolyte that is even more hydrating than tap water. Fresh coconut water straight out of the coconut is the most authentic and will provide wonderful health benefits (you can read all about them here) otherwise there are some lovely organic, fair-trade packaged coconut waters that are also super nourishing and can be taken on the go as an energy booster.
