It’s been said time and time again that attaining a morning ritual or taking solo time before the pressures of the day begin, can truly help success, productivity and happiness.
Call us nosy, but we’ve always been curious about how other people spend their mornings before they arrive in the public eye, polished for their day.
We wonder, what did they eat for breakfast? Did they meditate? Did they stretch? Did they hit snooze? Did they have to only worry about themselves or a family…? So many curious questions!
Follow along as we step into the mornings of a wide range of successful ladies from all over and to uncover what habits put the spring in their morning step…
This week we chat to the lovely Sarah Tanner, co-owner of Greenleaf Organics, the organic wholefoods cafe here in Auckland.
Tell us, what does your morning look like as you roll out of bed…
It’s less and less a roll and more of a leap these days the healthier and fitter I get. Although, it very much depends on how well I’ve slept during the night. The morning is 90% focused around my 4 year old girl Stella and getting her ready and off to daycare.
What’s the first thing you drink?
I always have a big glass of pure water (I love ararimu spring water, with a few drops of colloidial silver and my sole drops), then followed by my green super smoothie. It’s like a witches brew with loads of ancient medicinal herbs like Ashwangandha, Shatavari, Holy Basil, Astragalus, Curcumin, Reishi, as well as probiotic capsules cracked in. Always vegan and always organic.
What’s the first thing you eat?
Well, the smoothie is pretty loaded so that would be it!
What’s your favourite way to move your body in the morning?
One foot in front of the other! The afternoons are my time that I move, which is a combo of low intensity walks combined with weights and high intensity interval training. It suits me and I’m able to happily fit it into my busy days.
How important is stillness or ‘quiet space’ first thing?
It really isn’t too important. I catch quiet space on my way to work sitting in the traffic believe it or not! I know I only have one child, so I can’t moan about mayhem mornings, although sometimes they feel like that! Like it’s a huge surprise to Stella every morning that we have to get dressed and out the door at a certain time. In a round about kind of way, she’s my little zen teacher…I have to breathe through it and remain calm, because yelling really does not help to get the socks on any faster!
Describe your ultimate morning. No kids, no obligations…?
A walk in Cornwall Park followed by a slow, leisurely drunk coffee. Then time to work on the 50 thousand projects I have in my head but don’t get around to!
Please share your favourite breakfast recipe…what’s your go-to?
I can’t go past avo on toast with some fresh sliced tomato and sprinkles of nutritional yeast, salt and pepper.
