It’s been said time and time again that attaining a morning ritual or taking solo time before the pressures of the day begin, can truly help success, productivity and happiness.
Call us nosy, but we’ve always been curious about how other people spend their mornings before they arrive in the public eye, polished for their day.
We wonder, what did they eat for breakfast? Did they meditate? Did they stretch? Did they hit snooze? Did they have to only worry about themselves or a family…? So many curious questions!
Follow along as we step into the mornings of a wide range of successful ladies from all over and to uncover what habits put the spring in their morning step…
This week we chat to the beauty Natalie Wolfsdorf about her morning routine.
“My name is Natalie and I am the girl behind ‘Nat Attacks A Balanced Life’. Nat Attacks is a platform for me to inspire healthy living, motivate people and share recipes. I am a qualified personal trainer and a Les Mills certified GRIT instructor. I am also lucky to be the mother of my two-year old boy Max, who radiates joy and is the light of my life”.
Tell us, what does your morning look like as you roll out of bed…
I wake early between 6-7 am to the sound of Max yelling “Mama, Mama”.. First, I get Max ready for the day. Then move on to breakfast, which includes a bowl of porridge. He likes it simple with a little milk and a sprinkle of coconut sugar. After Max is fuelled up , I get ready, and depending on the type of training I have scheduled, I eat a breakfast. Then I pack all of our bags (one might think I’m travelling for a week with my training bag, purse, Max’s backpack, lunch and snacks for the day). Then it’s time for my morning coffee date before daycare drop off. I order an almond cappuccino with cinnamon and Max has a fluffy (without marshmallow unless it is the weekend) and then it’s off to daycare before I head to training, work or teaching a class..
Can you believe it is still only 9am???
What’s the first thing you drink?
I finish my night-time water bottle and then time for warm apple cider vinegar with lemon and cayenne, and a cup of tea.
What’s the first thing you eat?
I rarely eat the same thing every morning and rotate between paleo protein pancakes, an amped up smoothie bowl or chia and oat porridge. For colder mornings, I make protein porridge (my secret is adding an egg white to the end of cooking. It makes it super voluminous and fluffy). If I go out for breakfast, then I almost always order a savoury breakfast and if available, I order avocado toast on sourdough or paleo toast with (well) poached eggs and side of green goddess spinach.
What’s your favourite way to move your body in the morning?
A walk in the sunshine followed by a Les Mills GRIT Strength class. GRIT is a 30 minutes high intensity interval training class that will push you to your limits! If you get the opportunity, try a class with Tauvanga – he teaches around Auckland City Les Mills. On a Wednesday, I have been doing Les Mills Sprint followed by GRIT Strength and it’s the perfect hour of POWER!
How important is stillness or ‘quiet space’ first thing?
It is important but with a young son, they are few and far between. When I get the chance, I wake up and go for a walk, without my phone or music. I try to unplug, get some Vitamin D and take myself out for a coffee, read a magazine, do some journaling and collect my thoughts before starting my day.
Describe your ultimate morning. No kids, no obligations…?
I wake up at my parent’s house in Malibu, California with the sun streaming in and gently warming my body, and my soul. I stroll a few minutes to the beach and go for a walk listening to the pounding surf and the squawking seagulls. I recently started surfing and now I am hooked! After an epic surf, it’s time for breakfast. I head to Sun Life Organics, where they make the best smoothie bowls and order the Dragonfruit Bowl with Paleo Muesli, which is generously topped with wild blueberries, strawberries, paleo muesli, cacao nibs, almond butter and coconut. To splurge, I add an almond cappuccino on the side with cinnamon. Then, I drive along the Pacific Coast highway with rows of beach houses to Santa Monica for a sweaty power flow class at SWEAT yoga. The music is cranking and I get completely lost in the flow. After yoga, I meet up with my boys and we spend the rest of the day swimming, playing, surfing and just laying out at the beach.
