It’s been said time and time again that attaining a morning ritual or taking solo time before the pressures of the day begin, can truly help success, productivity and happiness.
We are fascinated about how other people spend their mornings before they arrive in the public eye, polished for their day.
We wonder, what did they eat for breakfast? Did they meditate? Did they stretch? Did they hit the snooze button? Did they only need to worry about themselves or a family? …So many questions!
Follow along as we step into the mornings of a wide range of successful ladies to uncover what habits put the spring in their morning step…

Tell us, what does your morning look like as you roll out of bed…?
I’m up and into the shower, then I do my makeup and two mornings a week I’m out the door and my first stop is my hairdresser. I absolutely love having my hair done, I’m immersed in that moment, relaxed and centred, I find it truly decadent. I usually have my notepad with me and I use that time to plan for the day ahead. I think one of the reasons that I love having my hair done so much is that my mother was a hairdresser, so it’s a bit of a family thing, I feel so at home in the salon. It also saves me a lot of time during the week as I have a lot of hair, and it’s rather unruly – so by having my hair taken care of, it’s one less thing to worry about and gives me more time to worry about what’s really important. Plus it’s hard to not have a wonderful day ahead when you feel fantastic, it means almost every day is a great hair day!
What’s the first thing you drink?
A big glass of water and maybe another one to follow. I really enjoy my morning coffee so I like to be well hydrated in advance, plus it’s a great way to kick start your metabolism and help flush any toxins.
What’s the first thing you eat?
I love scrambled eggs on Vogel’s toast and make them most mornings. Super simple, and eggs keep you full for so long. If I’m feeling a bit naughty I like to accompany them with a good bit of butter on that toast too.
What’s your favourite way to move your body in the morning?
I love to exercise in the afternoons or evenings, it’s a great way for me to distress! I do spinning classes on week days at Les Mills when I can make them and I’m in New Zealand because my work can take me overseas quite a bit. I also really enjoy is swimming, preferably in the ocean when we are boating, or at our local Takapuna beach, I just love it and after a hard week in the office I find it super enjoyable, calming and relaxing!
How important is stillness or ‘quiet space’ first thing?
I am lucky as my fiancé is super wonderful! He takes care of our household matters in the morning so I can take time to get ready for work. Once I’m up, I enjoy my morning shower, apply my moisturiser and sunscreen and I have all my makeup organised in a draw ready to go. I love putting on my makeup! It gets my creative juices going and it’s at this point I start thinking about the day ahead. I’ve always loved putting on my makeup, it’s a beautiful start to my day.
Describe your ultimate morning. No obligations…?
Waking up on our boat! We love boating and as often as possible we take our boat away for the weekend, anchoring in our favourite bays. I love preparing the boat to take away for a night or two, stocking the fridge and the cupboards and then my fiancée and our daughter and I head off for a day or two on the water, leaving Auckland behind us. I find being on the water is the very best way for me to switch off and to recharge, there is something so soothing about the ocean. I just love waking up on the boat and going for a morning swim followed by a delicious breakfast on the deck – bliss!
Please share your favourite breakfast recipe…what’s your go-to?
I love making my family scrambled eggs on buttered Vogel’s toast. So simple, so easy and classic.
