It’s been said time and time again that attaining a morning ritual or taking solo time before the pressures of the day begin, can truly help success, productivity and happiness.
We are fascinated about how other people spend their mornings before they arrive in the public eye, polished for their day.
We wonder, what did they eat for breakfast? Did they meditate? Did they stretch? Did they hit the snooze button? Did they only need to worry about themselves or a family? …So many questions!
Follow along as we step into the mornings of a wide range of successful ladies to uncover what habits put the spring in their morning step…
This week belongs to the beautiful Jen Cuttance, fitness and wellbeing specialist here in Auckland.
“My name is Jen Cuttance I am a Fitness and Wellbeing Specialist now based in NZ, after working in the Middle East training members of the Omani royal family and other high profile clients. I specialize in Yoga/Corporate Wellness and Personal training”.
Tell us, what does your morning look like as you roll out of bed…?
I start work at 7am each morning so I like to allow myself enough time to prepare for my morning clients. I wake up at 5:30am, take a quick shower, take my vitamins (Lypo-Spheric Vitamin C and Bio Trace Turmeric) . I then take 10mins to meditate and tune into my first 3 clients. EAT, then head into work, potentially stopping at Salta for a coffee on the way. I love the little energy exchanges through out the day with people. The more present I try to be, the more fun and joyful the little interactions are.
Upon rising, what’s the first thing you drink?
One glass of water, then hot lemon water. I was informed by a dentist that this can ruin the enamel of your teeth, so I am currently on the hunt for a bamboo straw, or a silicone PBA free/ Metal free situation. Sounding pretty hippy in this statement. Which to some degree I guess I am!
What’s the first thing you eat?
I have one piece of Paleo super seeded toast with plenty of Lewis Road Creamery butter, Ceres Organics crunchy peanut butter and half an organic banana sliced on top.
What’s your favourite way to move your body in the morning?
Stretch! And connecting the breath with the body. The combination of the asanas (postures) “Cat/Cow” and the Ujjyai Breath (or the sounded breath) is my definite go to. I then love to practice Nadi Shodana (the balancing breath), to balance the mind and bring me into the present moment.
How important is stillness or quiet space first thing?
I really enjoy stillness and the quiet, it makes it a lot easier to meditate and practice pranayama (yogic breathing) in the mornings, but if thats not the case and there is noise, I just except that that it is all part of it.
Describe your ultimate morning, no obligations?
Firstly, not to set an alarm, or look at my phone in the morning! Cuddle my partner and plan what to eat. I love to move so my ultimate morning will always consist of some type of exercise, a lovely walk or run in nature, or at Movement Lab
either in the Gym / Pilates or Yoga Studio.
Please share your favourite breakfast recipe, what’s your go-to?
My partners omelette. All I know is it’s filled with turmeric, chilli, mushrooms, onions, fresh herbs, himalayan rock salt, pepper and that it is delicious!
