Call us nosy, but we’ve always been curious about how other people spend their mornings before they arrive in the public eye, polished for their day.  

We wonder, what did they eat for breakfast? Did they meditate? Did they stretch? Did they hit snooze? Did they have to only worry about themselves or a family…? So many curious questions!

Tell us, what does your morning look like as you roll out of bed…

I am totally a snooze button hitter. Mainly because I have the best dreams when I am dozing, and they often give me clues about what I should be writing about. Then, when I finally manage to ply my eyes open I am scribbling down dreams, ideas, visions, colours, symbols, thoughts, and feelings. I must look like a messy top knot sleepy eyed mad man scribbling away. Once I have purged all there is to note down I am in the shower, into workout gear, and out the door to conquer another day out in the world.

Upon rising…what’s the first thing you drink?

I like to have a turmeric latte on an empty stomach, it’s important to me that the turmeric blend has good fats and a spice or pepper to help metabolise the turmeric. If I’m feeling particularly sluggish I will get a dirty chai, sometimes extra dirty. Wink Wink. That’s a chai latte with a shot of espresso. So good, totally one of my guilty pleasures! I can often be spotted crawling into Major Sprout looking dazed and confused in the morning.

What’s the first thing you eat?

I’m addicted to ginger oats at the moment, they are so warming and tend to fire up my system for the day. Warming my creative juices! With summer on the horizon I can tell I will be chopping between good old avocado on toast, and chia pots depending on the carb cravings.

What’s your favourite way to move your body in the morning?

In the mornings is when I find I am most creative mentally, which as a writer and marketer is important. So I don’t like to burn that energy out exercising. I prefer to hit a sweat session in my lunch break, and usually take on Les Mills GRIT®, Les Mills BODYJAM®, or a Personal Training session at Les Mills Auckland City with Rowan Smith Fitness.

How important is stillness or ‘quiet space’ first thing?

Er, to the people around me probably quite important…haha awkward. I’m a bit of a creative firecracker at first light, so tend to bounce into the office with my warm drink in tow and will normally be full of life and laughs for the first hour or so. I tend to flat line by the end of the day and that is where ‘quiet time’ and meditations kick in.

Describe your ultimate morning. No obligations…?

Waking up to the sun shining in making crystal prism light throughout my room, lighting some incense, putting on the Spotify Gentle Acoustics playlist and writing. I love to sit admist the pillows, sounds, and scents and just create in the morning. In my own company. In my own space. Just the words and I… I also like to do readings for others first thing in the morning when I am most refreshed and connect.

Crown Chakra Chia Pudding

1/2 cup of organic blueberries

1/2 cup of chia

1/2 cup of shredded coconut

1 cup of coconut cream

Natural granola to top

Lavender to garnish

Dusted with cinnamon on the crown of the chia pot…and an amethyst on the side for spiritual harmony and a day of positive day dreaming.
