It’s been said time and time again that attaining a morning ritual or taking solo time before the pressures of the day begin, can truly help success, productivity and happiness.
Call us nosy, but we’ve always been curious about how other people spend their mornings before they arrive in the public eye, polished for their day.
We wonder, what did they eat for breakfast? Did they meditate? Did they stretch? Did they hit the snooze button? Did they only need to worry about themselves or a family…? So many questions!
Follow along as we step into the mornings of a wide range of successful ladies from all over and to uncover what habits put the spring in their morning step…
This week we chat to the lovely yogi Danica Jones about her morning routine.
Danica Jones is a Yoga Teacher & Co-Founder of Bikes & Bends (Yoga Delivery)… Lover of life, saltwater, yoga, bikes and coffee.
Tell us, what does your morning look like as you roll out of bed…?
I go straight for the kettle. Making tea is the first thing I do, without fail.
What’s the first thing you drink?
I LOVE ginger, lemon and honey to kick start the morning. Or Apple Cider Vinegar with hot water and honey is also a winner.
What’s the first thing you eat?
I’m a big fan of porridge. Even in Summer, I still love a warm brekkie topped with seasonal fruits. At the moment i’m loving strawberries and blueberries. Mmmmm. Oh and lots of chopped up nuts!
What’s your favourite way to move your body in the morning?
Mooching on my yoga mat. It’s usually pretty gentle movements, sometimes just laying on my back and breathing is enough.
How important is stillness or quiet space first thing?
I prefer silence in the mornings so you can hear the world waking up. Birds singing is my favourite natural soundtrack.
Describe your ultimate morning. No obligations…?
After the usual morning ritual of tea, mat mooching and meditation, I love getting out for a walk and enjoying a coffee. Dear Jervois is my much loved local, their filtered brew is the best!
Please share your favourite breakfast recipe…what’s your go-to?
Simple Porridge (serves 2)
1 cup of rolled oats
Generous pinch of shredded coconut
1 tablespoon of chia seeds
Small handful of raisins
–> Cook that up for a few minutes with enough water to cover everything in the pot.
–> Once it’s done, sprinkle some (or a lot) cinnamon, tons of fresh fruit, nuts and a big blob of Raglan Coconut Yogurt.
