A Morning In Her Shoes – Belinda Nash

It’s been said time and time again that attaining a morning ritual or taking solo time before the pressures of the day begin, can truly help success, productivity and happiness.

Call us nosy, but we’ve always been curious about how other people spend their mornings before they arrive in the public eye, polished for their day.

We wonder, what did they eat for breakfast? Did they meditate? Did they stretch? Did they hit snooze? Did they have to only worry about themselves or a family…? So many curious questions!

Follow along as we step into the mornings of a wide range of successful ladies from all over and to uncover what habits put the spring in their morning step…

This week we have the gorgeous Belinda Nash, Queen Bee of nzgirl !

Tell us, what does your morning look like as you roll out of bed…

I love sleep so I am that person who does what you’re never supposed to do, and uses the snooze button. More than once… I feel like it’s the only way to claim some sort of empowerment.

Like, “Alarm, you’re telling me to get up now, but I’m going to say no, I won’t get up now, I’ll get up when I feel like it. So there”. I know it’s wrong, but there it is.

Upon rising…

What’s the first thing you drink?

I always drink a lemon water or cold fruit tea that I have ready for me beside my bed when I wake. I figure if I get nothing in me immediately, like before the gym, then at least I have rehydrated from water lost overnight.

What’s the first thing you eat?

I live on smoothies, and have done since 2004, before they were the #1 breakfast trend.

There are four reasons for this:

The first is I can pack in all sorts of weird, super healthy things into a smoothie that I wouldn’t put in cereal, like white beans, peas, spinach, collard, blueberry powder, LSA, almond milk, bananas, kiwifruit, oranges, berries, cacao, cacao nibs, dates and other seasonal fruit and veges.

I am vegan too, so smoothies are perfect for me!

The second is it’s fast! Throw the ingredients in a blender and it’s done!!

The third is it’s easy! So easy. No brain needed.

And the fourth, and most important, is that I can do my makeup while drinking my smoothie. No need to sit at a table, or the bench. Just sip as I apply!

What’s your favourite way to move your body in the morning?

This is where I say I do yoga, right? No, sadly, I just move fast to keep going. I sometimes dance and get a full hip wiggle on and I always sing. On Saturdays I go to the gym, yoga then ‘BodyJam’. But not gonna lie, had a few too many party Friday nights lately for even that!

How important is stillness or ‘quiet space’ first thing?

In the weekends or when I work from home on the weekdays, I am all about the silence.

But to rev up my morning when I am headed into the office, I have George FM on my UE Megaboom and carry it with me everywhere I go. Then I pop on my headphones and continue George FM as I walk to work. I am all about the sound in my morning routine; it helps connect me to the world, and George nails it for good vibes minus the depressing news (that shiz is sooooo depressing!!)

Describe your ultimate morning…

My ultimate morning would be waking somewhere tropical (Bali, Fiji, Sr Lanka, Maldives come at me…), diving straight into the pool/ocean and hanging out and laughing with friends. Then getting out all salty and fresh and eating a gorgeous tropical breakfast with loads of fresh fruit and a watermelon juice to cure the (inevitable) hangover!

Please share your favourite breakfast recipe…what’s your go-to?

Smoothies!

This is my most recent brekkie smoothie share….

It had blueberry, banana, kiwi fruit, LSA and almond milk – Almond Breeze is my absolute fave to add into smoothies!! This smoothie is also what I had for brekkie today.

Another fave is: adding California medjool dates (de-pipped), cacao nibs and cacao powder. Or mix it up with cinnamon.

Also, because it’s orange season, adding an orange is a must!!
