It’s been said time and time again that attaining a morning ritual or taking solo time before the pressures of the day begin, can truly help success, productivity and happiness.

We are fascinated about how other people spend their mornings before they arrive in the public eye, polished for their day.

We wonder, what did they eat for breakfast? Did they meditate? Did they stretch? Did they hit the snooze button? Did they only need to worry about themselves or a family? …So many questions!

Follow along as we step into the mornings of a wide range of successful ladies to uncover what habits put the spring in their morning step…

This week belongs to the lovely Megan Hutchison, face behind the popular wedding planning blog ‘She Said Yes’…

megan hutchison she said yes blog nz” I am Megan Hutchison, 27, a lawyer turned wedding blogger turned entrepreneur. She Said Yes is now my full time job, writing wedding planning guides and helping couples plan their weddings with the “Little White Book“, a wedding diary and organiser. I have also just launched a sequel to that, a wedding anniversary diary called “I Still Do“, so life is busy! “

Tell us, what does your morning look like as you roll out of bed…

I usually rise late as I work ‘til the early hours (a habit I’m working on). First I check Instagram – which still counts as work – but is the only ‘work’ I do before caffeine.

What’s the first thing you drink?

A glass of water and a strong coffee.

What’s the first thing you eat?

Not until a bit later but it may be an almond croissant if I feel like a treat!

How do you most like to move your body in the morning?

I love to get out of the house and walk my dogs in the morning, taking them from Mission Bay to Kohi or St Heliers, and grabbing a latte en route, with my husband Blair if he’s home. If I possibly can, I leave my phone at home or put it in my pocket for 30 minutes to think about what I want or need to achieve that day.  If I can encourage myself out of bed early enough, I’ll go to yoga or pilates.

How important is stillness or ‘quiet space’ first thing?

I’m recognising the importance of taking time for myself, sans technology, people or other distractions, to get perspective and prioritise. With running an online magazine and business, I spend so much of my time ‘connected’ that it’s a luxury to take a break from it, so that time with the dogs, or at yoga is so valuable.

Describe your ultimate morning…no kids, no obligations…

My only obligations are the ones I set myself, and I absolutely love running my own business, so my “ultimate mornings” are the ones described. I prefer mornings to start like this, and to arrange meetings at lunch-time (I’m a multi-tasker) if possible. Of course, my dream morning would be to wake up in Bali or Hawaii with a luxe pool to start the day in!

Please share your favourite breakfast recipe…what’s your go-to?

I don’t eat a lot in the morning but I do LOVE breakfast foods, so a chia and oat soaked muesli with fruit, or avo on toast are my ideal lunches.

I’m a big fan of the ‘Trustie’ at TRUE –  smashed avocado with feta and mint on sourdough with a squeeze of lemon, washed down with a turmeric latte overlooking Okahu Bay.
