This week belongs to the gorgeous Annaliese Jones, Naturopath & Nutritionist here in Auckland…
My name is Annaliese Jones and I’m 37. I’ve been working with people to help them be healthy and happy for the last 15 years. I have a clinic in Mt Eden, Auckland and run an online programme too. My training in is naturopathy, nutrition and herbal medicine, but what I love most about my job is helping people uncover what true health means to them, and then supporting them to get there. There’s nothing better than seeing someone succeed!
Tell us, what does your morning look like as you roll out of bed…
My current alarm clock is my 10 month old Max. After attending to him and getting my older one off to school I get myself ready for the day. I like to decide once a year or so what I’ going to wear to work then I don’t have to think about it every morning. For the last few years it’s been beautiful white shirts and black or grey pants. I guess you could call it a sort of uniform! It’s a trick Steve Jobs talked about and it works for me. Less little decisions leaves more brain capacity for important decisions! I do the same with breakfast. I decide what’s going to serve me best and stick to it. No getting distracted by the latest smoothie bowl or chia pudding.
What’s the first thing you drink?
Filtered water then my smoothie.
What’s the first thing you eat?
My smoothie (I make sure to chew it a little to stimulate digestion, then an egg/veg scramble (when I finish breastfeeding I will probably drop the second breakfast!)
How do you most like to move your body in the morning?
At the moment I’m doing a 10 minute workout we put together for my Feed Yourself Healthy Programme participants. It’s a ‘tabata’ sequence and I love it!
How important is stillness or quiet space first thing?
Life is so noisy by default (especially with kids). I feel frazzled if I don’t make time for 5 minutes of breathing (alternate nostril breathing is my favourite), then a quick journal entry to set an intention for the day. I notice if I don’t prioritise doing these two little things my day is not as productive or enjoyable.
Describe your ultimate morning…no kids, no obligations…
Waking up in Hawaii with my hubby, with nothing but beach walks and eating on the agenda! Throw in a seaside yoga session and I would be in heaven!
Please share your favourite breakfast recipe…what’s your go-to?
My breakfast smoothie is a simple one but I’ve been having it for many years and it’s filled with protein, antioxidants and good fats.
250ml water or favourite milk
4 ice cubes
½ frozen banana
1 Tbsp. raw cacao
1 Tbsp. flaxseed oil
20gm of rice protein or a handful of raw nuts
Blend away! I love it really icy so drink it straight away but you could make it at home and drink it after a workout or at work.
