A morning in her shoes…
It’s been said time and time again that attaining a morning ritual or taking solo time before the pressures of the day begin, can truly help success, productivity and happiness.
Call me nosy, but i’ve always been curious about how other people spend their mornings before they arrive in the public eye polished for their day.
I wonder, how did their day start…have they eaten breakfast yet? Did they meditate? Did they already run 8km? Find out…
We will be asking a range of successful ladies from all over to find out what habits put the spring in their morning step.

Tell us, what does your morning look like as you roll out of bed, what habits or rising rituals do you have that keep you on top and in the game…?
I’m not really awake or in the mood for talking to anyone until I’ve brushed my teeth and washed my face with a hot facecloth. My husband will sometimes try to talk to me before these things have happened, and he only gets grunts in response!
I need to get freshened up and then i can start my day with a clear head – particularly on weekdays when i’m rushing around trying to get myself and the kids ready for the day. I’ll make the kids breakfast, and then whip back upstairs while they’re occupied to have a quick shower, put on my makeup and get dressed!
On weekends, it’s more relaxed and I might stay in my PJs a little longer – but I’ll still wash my face and brush my teeth before going downstairs to the kitchen to make the kids breakfast.
What do you drink?
Weekdays before work I’ll whip up a green smoothie with protein in it and drink it on the way to work.
On the weekends when it’s a bit more relaxed, I’ll drink ‘OMG tea’ with my toast or cereal (I’ll get two cups of tea from one tea bag, ha ha) – it helps me feel less bloated and keeps me full for longer.
What do you eat?
On weekdays, I load my smoothie up with protein and superfood goodies to keep me full and nourished.
On weekends, my favourites are:
~ Toast with avocado and tomato, or peanut butter and banana
~ Paleo cereal with berries and yoghurt
~ 3 egg omelette with tonnes of veggies in it, and dashes of chilli sauce and rocket sauce
How do you move?
I negotiate my morning exercise schedule with my husband, taking turns to be at home with the kids before work.
On my days, I will go to a 7am hot yoga class (60 minutes) in the city near my work.
On the weekends, I’ll try to get to a 7.30am hot yoga class on a Saturday while my family are still sleeping/watching tv, or I’ll actually be teaching a class on a Sunday morning.
Otherwise my exercise is during work hours or evenings.
Do you have a practice of stillness or quiet?
Not specifically as a morning practice.
But when I have got the kids sitting down eating their breakfast, I sometimes like to sit with them at their little table and eat my breakfast too.
I just watch them, and listen to their discussions. It’s really cute.
My times of stillness and quiet come on the yoga mat, or after my kids are in bed at night.
Can you share your favourite go-to morning breakfast recipe?
My favourite on-the-run breakfast smoothie is:
~ 1 C unsweetened almond milk
~ 1/2 C coconut yoghurt
~ 1 small banana
~ 1 serve ‘Amazonia Raw’ protein powder (coconut & cacao flavour)
~ 3 tbsp chia seeds
~ 1 tsp Vital Greens/Good Green Stuff
~ 1 tsp acai powder
~ Small handful of frozen berries (optional)
~ Few cubes of ice
