A morning in her shoes…
It’s been said time and time again that attaining a morning ritual or taking solo time before the pressures of the day begin, can truly help success, productivity and happiness.
Call me nosy, but i’ve always been curious about how other people spend their mornings before they arrive in the public eye polished for their day.
I wonder, how did their day start…have they eaten breakfast yet? Did they meditate? Did they already run 8km? Find out…
We will be asking a range of successful ladies from all over to find out what habits put the spring in their morning step.
This week we have the lovely Aisling behind the ‘Healthy Clean Holistic’ blog…
Auckland-based Aisling is the face behind the plant-based foodie haven on Instagram ‘Healthy Clean Holistic’. She follows a predominantly HCLF Vegan diet (high carb, low fat), which she displays through delectable looking imagery & recipes on her blog & social channels.
Tell us, what does your morning look like as you roll out of bed… what habits or rising rituals do you have that keep you on top and in the game…?
Hmm well that depends on whether I have uni, or a relaxed morning.
On uni mornings I tend to hit the snooze button a few too many times (don’t we all). Once I finally bring myself to leave the comfort of my warm bed I sip away at a jar of lemon water I make the night before while reading the headlines, mentally planning my day, and admiring the nature outside my window (this is my silent, reflective part of the morning which balances my mind and brings focus to the day). Then I jump in the shower, make my breakfast smoothie, and head off to live life.
If it’s a relaxed morning I like to do a mini workout, or at least a few stretches after my lemon water, and then meet friends for breakfast.
What do you drink?
Water!!! I love adding fresh fruit, veggies, or herbs to my water which I carry around
with me for the day.
Tea, smoothies and juice are also regular features on my ‘drink’ list. I also drink coffee, which a lot of HCLF vegans won’t go near – personally I don’t have a problem with coffee and cherish each cup.
What do you eat?
A LOT. I try to follow a plant-based, high carb, low fat, vegan diet (HCLFV) so for most of the day I eat giant smoothies or nice cream bowls (frozen bananas) topped with all sorts of goodies.
I find it funny how people seem to think being vegan is restrictive, but there are very few cafes or restaurants who don’t have vegan options, and I swear the food I eat now is more interesting and tasty than before I was vegan.
How do you move?
My gym membership ran out a few months ago (cry), so I certainly haven’t been moving as much as I used to. I’m so lucky to live in NZ where there are so many amazing walks on our doorstep, so I love to go on bush walks through the Hunua Ranges and Waitakere Ranges. I think just basic stretching and yoga are extremely powerful and underrated movements – so if I can’t get to the gym I make sure I stretch.
Do you have a practice of stillness or quiet?
I make sure my ‘lemon water time’ in the morning is alone and quiet so I can enjoy peace, reflection, goal setting and stillness. I also find sitting on the deck and looking into the bush extremely useful for finding balance and peace.
Can you share your favourite go-to morning breakfast recipe?
One of my favourite Breakfast Smoothie recipes is:
~ 5 frozen bananas
~ 1.5 cups frozen blueberries
~ 3 dates
~ 2 tsp ground flaxseeds
~ 2 tsp cinnamon
~ 2 cups water
~ A few drops of vanilla liquid stevia
~ Optional: dried mulberries, cacao nibs & coconut chips to sprinkle on top.
Blend everything together until smooth and enjoy x
