We’re obsessed with hearing about what other people eat all day everyday and we just know that you’re all as curious as we are! There’s something so intriguing about knowing the secrets of a healthy foodie. Follow along with this series where we find out what a wide range of successful health-loving ladies eat in a day.

Vicky is co-owner and Director of Sip Kitchen whole food eatery, with two stores located in Auckland.  Sip Kitchen was opened five years ago by Vicky and business partner Darren with the goal to create a wholefood nutritionally focused eatery. Vicky and Darren were both heavily into the ultra distance trail running scene at the time so nutrition from a sports performance and recovery perspective were top of mind and there were few places they wanted to and could eat at.

Establishing Sip Kitchen involved Vicky stepping out of 18 years in strategy and planning roles in the corporate environment and throwing herself in the deep end with a hospitality business that has ‘schooled’ her in life and business ever since! “One of my biggest personal achievements is getting Sip Kitchen to 5 years whilst still having energy and passion for Sip Kitchens future and that my two children haven’t disowned me as their mother for all the hours I work!”

Vicky and Darren’s goal with Sip Kitchen is to keep pushing and evolving the business to provide customers with the best nutritionally dense and authentic food in an environment that is warm, accessible and environmentally responsible. Whilst leveraging the growing business platform to inspire and play their part in helping educate the communities they operate in.

Your go-to brekkie is…

Given I’m always up well before 5 am, by the time I hit a normal-ish breakfast time a couple of black coffees have been consumed! I wish I could say I drink less coffee than I do but it’s usually always 2-3 black coffees a day…

I tend to move in and out of different fasting protocols with gaps between these to ensure I don’t deplete myself nutritionally, hence breakfast isn’t always consumed. For the last four months, I’ve done fasting mimicking protocol one week a month so it’s just almond milk or vegetable broth in the morning. Following one of these fasts I ensure for the next full week I don’t skip or skimp on nutrition especially protein as the fasting mimicking protocol by design has negligible protein to get you out of ‘growth mode’ and into ‘rejuvenation mode’. However breakfast still tends to be convenient and fast as I’m on my feet in the kitchen or serving out the front in one of the cafes.

My go to breakfast at the moment is a boosted up sugar free super hot chocolate around 10-11am…House made almond milk, cacao powder, collagen, MCT, Maca, vanilla and cinnamon….then depending on how I’m feeling I may add turmeric juice and black pepper or an espresso shot or both!

Your go-to lunch is…

At the moment I’m living off a green smoothie for lunch which is usually around 2-3pmish .. It’s a simple blend up of avocado, MCT, Ashwagandha, good green stuff, protein powder (collagen, hemp or vanilla clean lean if I want some sweetness to the smoothie) and filtered water

Your go-to dinner is…

Breakfast and lunch tend to be fast, liquid and functional so it’s really at dinner time I focus on taking time, eating as a family and ensuring I have plenty of texture and variety on the plate.

I’m lucky, dinners are always easy as I have the run of Sip Kitchens cabinet and fridges…

I alternate at the moment between Mixed green salad with organic chicken, organic egg, avocado, pesto and sauerkraut

Leftover keto pizza topped with plenty of greens, avocado, sauerkraut, cashew sour cream and organic egg

Dessert or no dessert…

I’m typically not a dessert person though ironically I’m more likely to include something sweet with my meal during the week as I can grab something from work. Eating out at weekends is harder, it’s usually highly refined standard desserts on offer and I just don’t enjoy it or feel good afterwards, I’m more likely to have a second glass of red wine instead!

What you reach for when a snack attack hits…

Easy! Either a piece of our Keto fudge, typically Mocha Collagen though alternating between that and the Lemon coconut at the moment or our house made Keto crackers with avocado and sauerkraut

Your fave foodie destination…

I don’t have a fave foodie destination really… I’ll go anywhere that’s doing something interesting, meaningful and with authenticity… It may not be exactly what I would choose to eat on a regular basis but if there is substance there I want to check it out and learn something…

Three foods you can’t live without…

Black organic coffee; Keto fudge; Avocado

Your ultimate foodie indulgence…

I have two! A whole day of trekking around different eateries and food retailers that are doing worthwhile things, trying different foods and drinking good coffee!

The other is having time to just sit and look at recipes, trends and latest nutrition thinking… then jot a gazillion ideas down. Finishing the day with time to cook something with the ingredients and combinations that have inspired!

The recipe that’ll always get you drooling is…

I’m not sure about drooling, I’ll want to eat or make a recipe if I can see the consideration in it … It’s thought through, balanced, good for you, worthy of eating and delicious!
