Unna Burch

We’re obsessed with hearing about what other people eat all day everyday and we just know that you’re all as curious as we are! There’s something so intriguing about knowing the secrets of a healthy foodie. Follow along with this series where we find out what a wide range of successful health-loving ladies eat in a day.

Unna Burch (pron. Ah-na), AKA The Forest Cantina is a 39-year-old mum of two boys, Jah (17 yrs old) and Leo (6 yrs old) and wife to Aaron who is the ower of a building company. Wellington, New Zealand is where they call home and live on the outskirts of a little suburban forest.  The ‘forest’ part of the name The Forest Cantina is based on where they live and ‘cantina’ because it is another name for her kitchen/place to serve food from.

Unna is a cookbook author of two cookbooks, the second was self-published. She also taught sold-out food styling and photography workshops around the country, styled food for two TV commercials for an international client as well as working for some of New Zealand’s most well-known brands and companies. Unna can be hired as a stylist, photographer and/or recipe developer, and the work she creates for her clients either gets used on their website, for content on their social media pages, for packaging and design purposes or for advertising. Your go-to brekkie is…
I’m not really a huge breakfast fan, but I usually have Vogels and eggs and in summer I’ll have overnight oats with fresh berries.

Your go-to lunch is…
Usually, a salad – I have lots of salad stuff all prepped and ready to go in the fridge.

Your go-to dinner is…
I cook a lot of Asian food – curries, noodle dishes etc. I can make those things without too much thinking.

Dessert or no dessert…
Dessert when we are out for dinner for sure, and would always go for something chocolaty .

What you reach for when a snack attack hits…
Coffee or fruit.

Your fave foodie destination…
Bangkok by far, followed by Bali.

Three foods you can’t live without…
Chilli, chocolate and salt .

Your ultimate foodie indulgence…
There’s something pretty special and indulgent about our Christmas lunch and the preparation and love that goes into it. And my hubby and I also love champagne and oysters – so if we have a special anniversary dinner or something like that, those are two items that we love to treat ourselves with.

The recipe that’ll always get you drooling is…

Any tomato based pasta dishes always make me drool. Ultimate is pappardelle with a ragu type sauce. OR Yum Cha, final meal, if I had to choose, would 100% be Yum Cha!
