We’re obsessed with hearing about what other people eat all day erryday and we just know that you’re all as curious as we are! There’s something so intriguing about knowing the secrets of a healthy foodie. Follow along with this series where we find out what a wide range of successful health-loving ladies eat in a day.
This week we chat to the gorgeous Tamaryn Barber, health & fitness advocate, multi-business owner, mum, wife and CrossFit champ.
Tamaryn’s passion is helping people realise how much impact their health and fitness choices can have on their overall quality of life. In 2008 she opened the first CrossFit gym (CrossFit NZ) in NZ with her business partner and since then has competed in 3 CrossFit Games.
Love tore her away from NZ and took her to California, where she now lives with her husband and two boys (soon to be three). Together, they run an online Gym Consulting business (warmupandworkout) that helps CrossFit affiliates around the world run their gyms to the best of their ability. They have also recently created a partner workout program (Yoked) that encompasses health and fitness accountability and mindfulness. Both things that people struggle with in today’s modern world. Because they are digital nomads, they are lucky enough to be able to travel the world with their two kids while running their businesses.
Their current hobby is their Parenting Podcast (thetribelife). It’s main goal is to connect with other parents around the world so they can tell stories about their relationship and how they are currently raising their families. Raising good human beings is hard, and there’s so much conflicting advice about the ‘right’ way to do it. They don’t believe there is one right way. But They do believe in lifelong learning, in continuing to learn more about themselves and the world every day.
Your go-to brekkie is…
When I wake up (5 am) I will make myself a decaf coffee with collagen, cacao butter , maca and some coconut powder blended into a ‘warm milkshake.’ The fat keeps me going while I get some work done while the rest of the family sleeps.
Then, breakfast is almost always Scrambled eggs with mushrooms, onions, bacon and Kale. Since I am pregnant right now, eating vegetables for breakfast can be hard, so I will often resort to a chia seed bowl with coconut cream, almonds, bee pollen and fruit on top.
* The kids go to breakfast is banana pancakes. 1 banana + 1 egg + 1 tsp vanilla + ¼ tsp baking soda. Feeds one kid. Never fails.
Your go-to lunch is…
Leftovers, or a big salad with whatever is in the fridge + protein source (meat/fish or eggs)!
Your go-to dinner is…
Our during the week family dinners are usually always meat/fish and veg. A few times a week I will branch out and make something that requires a little more fun and planning!
Dessert or no dessert…
Usually no, but being during pregnancy I find myself wanting a little something after dinner. I make some 100% cacao, almond and coconut butter cups that I keep in the fridge to prevent me from doing something I regret 🙂
What you reach for when a snack attack hits…
Snacks vary depending on where I am or what is available. I will always try to include a protein, fat and carbohydrate when I do snack. That might look like a piece of fruit, some nuts and either cheese or some deli meat.
Your fave foodie destination…
NZ of course 🙂 And South Africa for their meat.
Three foods you can’t live without…
Eggs, Dairy (does a whole food group count? :-0), Fruit and Vegetables. That was four…..
Your ultimate foodie indulgence…
Sushi. Lots of it.
The recipe that’ll always get you drooling is…
A creamy Pasta/Gnocchi dish . Alas, pasta isn’t on my daily menu, so for now I will just keep drooling. Or, anything to do with dark chocolate. Gets me every time.
