Michelle Hall is a Nutrition and Eating Psychology Coach and the founder of Sage Wellness – a Mind Body Nutrition Practice, based in Auckland.  She has spent the best part of ten years studying the field of Mind Body Nutrition and has a unique non-diet, holistic approach to health and weight that doesn’t follow diets, or trends.

She works with clients directly on eating itself, teaching them how to tap into their own body wisdom. She helps them to regulate appetite, manage their energy and create positive eating habits without scales or calorie counting. The ultimate goal is a relationship with eating that allows food to nourish rather than punish. As a mother of teen boys, she knows that healthy eating can’t come at the cost of convenience.

Your go-to brekkie is…

My go to brekkie is most definitely oats.  I love anything with oats in it and honestly, I could eat oats for breakfast, lunch and dinner!  What’s been repeat in my house all winter is a combo of rolled oats, cooked and then mixed with Nuzest Vanilla protein powder and topped with Fix and Fogg Almond butter, chia seeds, blueberries warmed up and a sprinkle of chocolate drops. It is so delicious and the balance of proteins and healthy fats means I am satisfied until lunchtime.

Your go-to lunch is…

I am a big advocate of leftovers for lunch, so I do try to make sure there are leftovers.  However I also like to make what I call pizzas.  I use the Rebel Bakehouse Low carb wraps as these seem to work the best as a pizza base.  I cook them first on their own for a few minutes and then literally throw whatever I have in my fridge on them, lots of veggies, leftover chicken, ham, sometimes tuna, and a sprinkle of mozarella or feta with a topping of Coney Island mustard and cook for 10 mins.  So delicious, hearty and balanced.

Your go-to dinner is…

At the moment with both my husband and my schedules being so busy, and with two boys, we are running with the Nadia Lim Fresh Start meals.  I really like these and highly recommend them as they are delicious – their meals are packed with veg and a really good balance of healthy proteins and fats and their range is so diverse.  You can pick your options so I generally go for 1 fish meal, 2 vegetarian meals, 1 chicken and 1 red meat.  It makes life soooo easy!!

Dessert or no dessert…

Absolutely dessert! I generally go for dark chocolate or if I have baked something I will have that!

What you reach for when a snack-attack hits…

It depends if it is sweet or savoury.  If it is sweet, I will often have almond butter on apples (keep them in the fridge so they are cold and crunchy).  If it is savoury I will often have rice cakes with laughing cow cheese and cucumber and everything but the bagel seasoning.  It is soooo good.

Your fave foodie destination…

I once did a walking food tour in New York and it was incredible, definitely a favourite foodie destination!!

Three foods you can’t live without…

There’s 4!!  Oats, nut butter, blueberries, spinach (goes in everything!)

Your ultimate food indulgence…

My ultimate food indulgence would have to be anything with smoked salmon.  I love it as a breakfast, lunch or dinner option.  The flavour is delicious, it’s a wonderful source of protein, it goes well with so many things.  Just an all ‘round fave!!

The recipe that always gets you drooling…

I really love making Donna Hay’s recipe for Rum and Date cake with Caramel Sauce.  It is her take on sticky date pudding but so much better!!!  Every time I make this dessert people always ask for the recipe.  It is so delicious, decadent and indulgent and perfect for that special occasion! https://www.donnahay.com.au/recipes/sweets/cakes/rum-and-date-cake-with-caramel-sauce
