This week we chat to Marnie Perkinson, qualified Dietitian and TV presenter.
46 year old Marnie is a Qualified Dietitian and TV Presenter with a competitive sporting spirit. With her Olympic marathon dreams shattered due to Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, she now has a more hollistic approach to health. The last 18 months have been a whirlwind of excitement: marriage, a move to Omaha Beach, graduation from the Functional Nutrition Academy Australia, and the launch of health and wellness company ‘Perky’. The Perkinson duo are also recent shareholders in Twenty8, a 6-star organic essential oil and 100% natural skincare company which launched here March 28th (the day she met her husband, and the founder – Kim Morrisons’ – 50th).
Your go-to brekkie is…
Poached or scrambled eggs, panfried mushrooms, wilted spinach, fresh tomato, avocado, sauerkraut plus a Kombucha or fresh pressed green veggie juice and black coffee.
Your go-to lunch is…
A massive salad of varying variety with prawns, chicken or salmon generally. When grabbing a fast bite at the office, I Iove the prawn and black rice salad plus green juice combo from Goodlife Juice Company, or a lazy Uber Eats of chicken salad from Bird on a Wire.
Your go-to dinner is…
I’m a little too much a creature of habit (goal to vary things up more this year), so at home we often pan fry chicken/fish or red meat in ‘Cocova’ or butter/olive oil, and eat with a huge salad or two with olive oil/balsamic dressing + sauerkraut to keep things simple. Especially as we often eat out.
Dessert or no dessert…
Generally none, as I haven’t had a sweet tooth since eating low carb/high fat. Occasionally i’ll have a few squares of Honest 100% Dark Chocolate (our local), or Rose Pana Chocolate – it’s like chocolate and aromatherapy combined!
What you reach for when a snack attack hits…
Organic Inca Inchi seeds from Changing Habits, Tamari Almonds (often Ceres) or Aotearoad Basil Seeds soaked in water. All three hit my satiety button because of the protein, fat and fibre content, and are super convenient to travel with, which is extremely important of late! If i’m at home I love grain free crackers (eg Little Bird) with L’Authentique Liver Parfait – no preservatives and loaded with minerals, or Ceres Teriyaki Seaweed for the iodine hit.
Your fave foodie destination…
Locally I love Rothko Restaurant at the Sculptureum in Matakana, for its fresh, innovative cuisine. Or the Matakana Markets on a Saturday morning when we’re home (not enough lately!) for beautiful, local, organic produce.
Three foods you can’t live without…
Seafood of every kind.
Eggs – cheap, nutritious, delicious, filling, versatile. I’ll say no more….
Kombucha – not technically a food, but I must have Japanese in my DNA…
Your ultimate foodie indulgence…
Crayfish and scallops, which – lucky for me – my husband loves to dive for. He can also cook them to perfection. In fact, we’re having crayfish curry tonight with one of the giant bugs he brought back from Fiordland last week!. Talk about the perfect man!!
