Julienne Petherbridge

We’re obsessed with hearing about what other people eat all day everyday and we just know that you’re all as curious as we are! There’s something so intriguing about knowing the secrets of a healthy foodie. Follow along with this series where we find out what a wide range of successful health-loving ladies eat in a day.

Julienne is the owner of Gre3n Superfood & Juice Bar. She follows a plant based diet and knows first-hand how hard it can be to find healthy, tasty and affordable food, which meets our dietary requirements. She is committed to supporting people with food sensitivities, allergies and encouraging those who are either transitioning or have already chosen to live a healthy well-balanced lifestyle.

A few years ago while overseas on holiday, she went for over a week without having to double check ingredients or request special meals. Arriving back in NZ with her eyes open and mind full of ideas she could suddenly see there was a massive gap in the market for a shop specialising in fresh juice, smoothies and smoothie bowls, as well as a range of delicious foods.

Julienne now has a team of 29 and operates out of four locations in Christchurch and Nelson.

Your go-to brekkie is…

I like to fast until around 11am and then start my day with a green juice & a macadamia milk latte or sometimes I’ll go for a green smoothie.

Your go-to lunch is…

I prefer to do most of my eating in the middle part of the day so I tend to eat around 11.30 which if I had to share a go to it would be hands down smashed avocado sprinkled with hemp seeds on sourdough or sprouted wheat vogel toast. If I am in store I will go for a loaded smoothie at this time or an acai bowl. I’ll usually add to that a bit of salad or some fruit whatever is on hand.

Your go-to dinner is…

Always light and as nutrient dense as possible. A loaded Salad or stir fry vegetable dish of some kind. Have been experimenting with the likes of sunfed chicken free chicken, marinaded tofu etc to add in some texture, we sometimes cook with the “quorn” products again to add texture. I love fresh flavours and textures when it comes to food.

Dessert or no dessert…

If I indulge it would be the likes of coconut yoghurt with strawberries or maybe a chia pudding ?

What you reach for when a snack attack hits…

Rice crackers and hummus or vegan pesto. I am naughty and lovvvvvve potato chips, I go for the “proper” brand. Sweet – our house-made powerslice, I love it .

Your fave foodie destination…

Grater Goods is a standout for me at the moment, absolutely delicious plant based options and a new restaurant we have fallen in love is “You Hanoi Me” on Victoria Street – Vietnamese Street food, yum !

Three foods you can’t live without…

Avocado, green grapes, broccoli

Your ultimate foodie indulgence…

A platter from “grater goods” plant based deli meats and cheeses, they are amazing ! Coupled with pickles, crackers and a delish glass of pinot.

The recipe that’ll always get you drooling is…

As boring as it may be to others I love Vietnamese vermicelli slaw salad – red and green cabbage, Julienne carrot & cucumber, fresh mint, vermicelli noodles, spring onion, fresh chilli, chopped roasted peanuts to top and that delish sweet and spicy sauce that completes it .
