Hannah Jensen

We’re obsessed with hearing about what other people eat all day erryday and we just know that you’re all as curious as we are! There’s something so intriguing about knowing the secrets of a healthy foodie. Follow along with this series where we find out what a wide range of successful health-loving ladies eat in a day.

This week we chat to the extraordinarily creative Hannah Jensen, artist, surfer and volunteer teacher at Starship Hospital.

Hannah Jensen is a powerhouse of creativity. With a passion for the great outdoors, her carved works that she is known for, are often inspired by her time spent in nature. Jensen intricately hand carves her images into layers of acrylic paint on boards. Hannah has been carving for 15 years and enjoys the challenges it still brings her.

Your go-to brekkie is…

Smoothie Bowl! and if I don’t have it in the morning then I always find a way to fit it in later in the day. I use a mix of plant-based fermented protein and hemp protein with a base of banana, spirulina and maca with rice or nut milk… additions vary depending on the season and day. Always homemade muesli on top!

Your go-to lunch is…

Salad! this is when I get as many nutritious things I can into a bowl. Lots of fresh greens and vegetables, some kind of bean, nuts and seeds, drizzled in olive oil and often tossed with cumin, my favourite spice.

Your go-to dinner is…

Pasta! My partner and I have been doing long distance for the last year and a half and are often meeting in some magic cabin, somewhere in the country to spend the weekend adventuring. So our delicious go-to dinner we love to make is a puttanesca based pasta with seasonal vegetables.

Dessert or no dessert…

No dessert, however, does chocolate count? if so, then yes totally dessert 🙂

What you reach for when a snack attack hits…

Muesli and milk (non-dairy) haha, my secret go-to is a little cup of homemade muesli, with oats, chia, nuts, dried fruits and seeds, always gets me through the afternoon!

Your fave foodie destination…

Town Tonic when in Christchurch, Ombra when in Wellington and Butchers Son when in Auckland 🙂 so many amazing places in this country!

Three foods you can’t live without…

Avocado (hanging out for the new season!) Muesli and Bananas .. but every time I have rice, I always think “I need more of this in my life”

  1. Your ultimate foodie indulgence…

  2. Carrot cake – after a hike in the weekend, if there is a local cafe that has a giant piece of carrot cake, I guarantee my partner and I will devour it!

  3. The recipe that’ll always get you drooling is…

  4. Sarah Tanners Nachos!!
We have done this so much we just ad lib it. Cook a big bean mix with onions, tomatoes with TVP (textured vegetable protein) as our ‘mince’, carrots and mushrooms, herbs and spices, fresh coriander and cashew cream drizzled over those amazing organic blue corn chips.
