Claudia Vavasour

We’re obsessed with hearing about what other people eat all day every day and we just know that you’re all as curious as we are! There’s something so intriguing about knowing the secrets of a healthy foodie. Follow along with this series where we find out what a wide range of successful health-loving ladies eat in a day.

Claudia is an experienced dietitian practising science-backed nutrition treatment that holistically supports women (just like you) through pre-conception fertility, pregnancy, and women’s health. Her passion lies in the critical importance of nutrition during the first 1,000 days of life. This begins during the pre-conception period and lasts until around 2 years of age. Correct nutrition during this period impacts the health of your baby during development all the way to adulthood. She cannot think of a better calling than to help people create healthy families and give their babies the very best start to life.

Back in 2019, Claudia launched Fertility Nutrition and offers virtual and face to face consultations. If you are struggling to conceive, unsure of how to manage your pregnancy health, or battling women-specific health challenges like Endometriosis and PCOS, she is here to help.
When she’s not working on fertility nutrition, she’s busy juggling her 3yr old daughter, managing her 15-acre property which she shares with her husband Gus, or sneaking in a horse ride which is her ultimate happy place.

Your go-to brekkie is…

Natural Muesli by Delish… with BioFarm bush honey probiotic yoghurt, milk and fruit, either kiwifruit, berries or banana. I love that it contains whole nuts, including Brazil nuts so I can get my daily selenium needs without having to think too much about it.

Your go-to lunch is…

the humble sandwich: Can’t go wrong, it’s balanced and fits beautifully into the Mediterranean diet. Wholegrain high fibre bread, with some homemade mayo, either some leftover chicken, tuna or cheese and loaded with veggies, my personal favourites are cucumber, spinach or lettuce, grated carrot, Italian parsley, basil leaves, cracked pepper. But I’ll never have tomato in a sandwich, makes them soggy!

Your go-to dinner is…

Summer Poke Bowl… made with a plethora of vegetables, protein, wholegrain and fat. Recently I’ve been using Wholegrain Kiwi Quinoa, which is so delicious with a nutty flavour, Bostock’s organic chicken or fresh sea perch fish from my local Ohoka Farmers market, roast kumara, capsicum, tomatoes, lettuce, spinach, red cabbage, cucumber, mint, basil and a generous dollop of home-made herb and garlic mayo plus a good drizzle of extra virgin olive oil.

Dessert or no dessert…

No dessert generally, but Dark Choc – my favourite is Lindt Dark Mint Intense.

What you reach for when a snack attack hits…

Mixed raw nuts and fruit

Your fave foodie destination…

Italy – my husband and I love Italian food. Closely followed by Japan.

Three foods you can’t live without…

Extra Virgin Olive Oil, Wholegrain bread and Savoury yeast – Many years ago, there was a brand called Brew-fax which my brothers and I would have sprinkled on toast with butter. Our Mother was going through a health food stage and had us eating it. We all became addicted and still love it to this day. It’s an indulgence because it tends to contain quite a bit of salt one tends to add a bit too much butter! My mother was onto it because it’s an excellent vegan source of B12 as well as chromium.

Your ultimate foodie indulgence…

8-course wine matched degustation – Hans Herzog, Marlborough

The recipe that’ll always get you drooling is…

Chicken Diablo
