Alisha Lovrich

We’re obsessed with hearing about what other people eat all day everyday and we just know that you’re all as curious as we are! There’s something so intriguing about knowing the secrets of a healthy foodie. Follow along with this series where we find out what a wide range of successful health-loving ladies eat in a day.

This week we chat with the very talented Alisha Lovrich. Alisha is a freelance photographer, videographer and graphic designer from Auckland. Her work mainly resides in the sport, active lifestyle and health and fitness industries while she also works as an event and wedding photographer. Alisha is Athletics New Zealand’s team photographer, which sends her across the country photographing top national athletics events as well as overseas including the World Championships in London, 2017 and most recently the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games last year. Alisha fits right into her industries as outside of work she is an ex middle distance runner to a recently turned pole vaulter, therefore works to keep her body fit and healthy which not only helps her pole vault but also keep up with her hectic lifestyle and physical job (camera gear is very heavy!!).

Your go-to brekkie is…

Depends on how much time I have in the morning cause I love my sleep. In an ideal world I would have porridge every day! I like to experiment with combos but my favourite are made with LSA, cinnamon and grated apple or rhubarb and honey or I’ll cook some frozen raspberries until it’s a syrup and use it as a topper . This will keep me going for hours!! Otherwise if I am in a rush, I’ll have grainy toast with honey or peanut butter as well as a serving of nice and thick Greek yogurt. For me because of my training and running around all day, I try to load up on complex carbs and protein so I don’t get hungry again in 60 minutes. Oh and of course coffee. I am not human until I have had my morning coffee hah!

Your go-to lunch is…

Right now I am really loving scrambled eggs. It’s super fast to make and you get a good amount of protein in there (cue the hunger battles). At the moment I lace spinach and feta through my eggs when cooking them and eat them with a couple of pieces of grainy toast to keep me going. Otherwise I like a hearty salad or pasta salad with a lot of meat whatever I have, tuna, chicken etc. Or leftover dinner!

Your go-to dinner is…

I love a good barbeque. It’s great for summer and you get all your mains in there! Otherwise I do love pasta and stirfry. Often I would make enough to last me through a couple of lunches if I am on the go. Lucky for me I still live at home and mum is a killer cook! So if my schedule is actually of a normal day, (often I photograph late at night for events), I will be treated to a home cooked meal.

Dessert or no dessert…

Anyone who knows me knows of my epic sweet tooth! I can demolish desserts like it’s nothing. If I had a choice I’d have dessert every night but I often eat quite late so keep desserts for special occasions, when I will have at least two servings!!

What you reach for when a snack attack hits…

Peanut butter, fruit, nuts…chocolate? Hehe. Or I just grab a cup of tea because I’m a real bad fridge and pantry raider as a form of procrastination. If I’m working at home I wonder if I am actually hungry or just procrastinating because I have starred at an image for two hours. However without fail, a peanut butter and honey sandwich and a banana just before training is perfect.

Your fave foodie destination…

Goodness this is hard…this changes all the time and I love finding new places too! Currently my fave café is Black and Gold in Rosedale, Auckland. It’s really close to where I train/work a lot: the AUT Millennium in the North Shore, Auckland, so its convenient and their coffee is insane. Also I love Meadow in Meadowbank, which is up the road from my house. For a special occasion restaurant I love One Tree Grill in Epsom.

Three foods you can’t live without…

Does coffee count? Coffee. Bread and eggs.

Your ultimate foodie indulgence…

Any place that makes epic desserts, cakes, cupcakes, slices, ooo and pancakes I LOVE pancakes.

The recipe that’ll always get you drooling is…

Goodness…um…. Well when I make pesto pasta I’ve eaten half of it before it reaches a plate… and mums Lasagna.
