There’s something so intriguing about knowing the secrets of a healthy foodie! Follow along with this new series where we find out what a wide range of successful health-loving ladies eat in a day…

This week we chat to the beautiful lady with the beautiful smile, Abbie O’Rourke, owner of Feel Fresh Nutrition, one of New Zealand’s leading nutrition clinics. What does this health-lovin’ lady’s daily menu look like?

Abbie O'Rourke 2Abbie is the owner of Feel Fresh Nutrition, one of New Zealand’s leading nutrition clinics. She heads a team of qualified nutritionists who together work everyday to improve the health and wellbeing of individuals, workplaces and communities throughout New Zealand. Abbie’s fundamental approach to nutrition comes from a ‘real world’ understanding that all our lives are complex and by taking the time to rearrange some of our smallest coping habits, you can make a huge difference to your health in the long run.

Abbie is a sought-after wellbeing speaker and a regular contributor to various publications from Harper’s BAZAAR, Wabi Sabi and NZ Herald. She also contributes to SKY TV productions and various health and lifestyle blogs across New Zealand and Australia.

When not running personal clinical sessions, corporate wellness programs or speaking on behalf of Feel Fresh Nutrition, Abbie is highly entertained by her 2-year-old daughter who demands (and gets) the best of work/life balance out of her parents.

Your go-to breakie is…

The Smoothie. It always varies depending on season, time available, mood and taste. Have just discovered Blend it Raw so have been loving the extra injection of variation in the morning! Try their ‘Pineapple Lump’ recipe – it’s so fresh, light and full of goodness.

Your go-to lunch is…

At the moment, it is so simple. I love simple when it comes to my food. It means I know what is in my meal – nothing hidden, no surprises. The usual breakdown: greens, glorious greens + colourful non-starchy veggies. Beautiful fats; tahini, crushed nuts or lemon infused olive oil, and finally a protein source. Typically I wouldn’t feel funny stating that I am indeed an occasional meat eater, but on Sunday I received a very ‘spirited’ message from a total stranger and vegan enthusiast… All I can say kids, is support each other in your individual nutritional philosophies, everyone has their own preferences, needs and version of healthy 🙂

Melbourne Breakfast DiaryYour go-to dinner is…

Ohhh I love my slow cooker during the winter months. Motto: Cook once, clean once, eat 4 times 🙂

Dessert or no dessert…

Over the years I have preferred the no dessert option. I know! Dessert used to be the highlight of my meal! I feel we are meant to eat our food during our most active hours so throwing in a dessert later in the evening seems unnecessary. Naturally I prefer my sweet treats in the afternoon if I feel the urge – especially Green Leaf Organics plant-based chocolate fudge protein bar.

What you reach for when a snack attack hits…

Nuts, mandarins, carrots, can’t beat a green apple sliced up thinly with a little dab of peanut butter…!

Your fave foodie destination…

Gemmayze St in St Kevins Arcade. Incredible Lebanese food with the sass and humour of the wait staff makes for fun dining times 🙂 Italian + NYC = Baduzzi.

Three foods you can’t live without…

Lemons (every day, every meal).

Eggs.

Coriander. You can dress everything up with coriander.

Your ultimate foodie indulgence…

Gorgonzola and french salted butter. OMG.

The recipe that’ll always get you drooling…

I am not the most cheffy of chefs 🙂 But my sister-in-law and her partner often cook from Yotam Ottolenghi’s book ‘Jerusalem’. It’s the best. Every time.
